"About 20 years ago, my then father in-law, George Wheelwright (of Stowe), introduced me to the world of coffee. A coffee connoisseur, he brought to me the mysteries and wonders of single-source varietal beans, roasting differences, slow drip, and even heating the coffee cup prior to pour. He was also passionate about his particular coffee source, a mysterious, mail order-only outfit in South Burlington called Brown & Jenkins. Skeptical at first (mail order coffee?), I was soon converted by the roasting mastery of Ken and Carol, and for a few years we enjoyed monthly shipments of B&J. But then along came Starbucks, the Internet, and life changes, including a move to Seattle, the home of great coffee in this country. And also, divorce. Contact with the in-laws became strained, and B&J over time slid into faded memory. Until last week. Driving along Rt. 15 to pay a long-overdue visit to George, now in a nursing home in Morrisville, I come around the bend and ,lo and behold, there is the new B&J store. I blink. Could this be the same Brown & Jenkins from mail order days? I must investigate…It is 5pm, the proprietor is closing, and though he is getting into his car he kindly lets me in to sell me a bag of Black Ice, directly from the sack, beans oozing with oil and fragrant sweetness. A few days later, after a trip home to the west, we are marveling at the espresso in our cup each morning. Truly delicious. I’ve just placed my first order in 20 years (this time on the web!) and reminded of how, like so many things in life, the word comes full circle."

"As a rule I do not drink coffee. I visited your roasting facility/cafe for a meeting and tried a cup, thinking to wake up a little and get the creative juices flowing. I enjoyed the coffee and was gifted with a bag to take home...This is when the problem began. I made a pot for my mother, who was visiting for the holidays. I tasted a cup and was overwhelmed by the intense, delicious flavor of the coffee. The next day, same thing. The day after I took my mother to the airport in Burlington and visited the mall where I had another cup of your coffee -- three delicious cups in as many days. Out of curiosity, I tried another local coffee and it was terrible. On the way home I tried Starbucks and had a good cup of coffee.
